The Best Time to Visit Morocco

There’s no shortage of reasons to visit Morocco. The imperial cities and their palaces attract history buffs; the Rif and Atlas mountains are the playground of hikers; the beaches of the Mediterranean welcome idlers and those of the Atlantic welcome surfers. In the evening, everyone gathers around a table laden with delicious traditional dishes.  Many people do Morocco Tours

    MOROCCO: WHEN TO GO?

You’d like to book your ferry ticket to Morocco, but you’re not sure when to leave to fully enjoy your stay? The answer depends on the region you’re visiting and the activities you’re planning.

With its warm, sunny days, the Kingdom can be visited all year round. However, certain periods lend themselves more to hiking, cultural tourism or swimming.

If you’re planning a trek in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco is best visited in summer, when the days are warm and the nights not too cool.

Spring and autumn are ideal for discovering imperial cities such as Marrakech, Fez and Meknes.

Finally, if you’re going to Morocco in August and summer, either as part of the Marhaba operation or because your vacation dates are imposed, give preference to the coast. In Tangier, Essaouira and Casablanca, the heat is less stifling than inland. It is also highly recommended to do 8 days Morocco tour from Casablanca

    The weather in Morocco

Morocco is influenced by three climates. In the north and along the coast, the Mediterranean climate dominates, with hot summers and dry winters.

In the central part of the country, a mountainous region, the climate is mountainous. Temperatures vary greatly between seasons and between day and night. Snow falls from January to April.

In the south, a desert climate prevails. Rain is rare and temperatures are high all year round, even in winter. In summer, desert winds and altitude make the heat in this part of Morocco harder to bear than in the rest of the Kingdom.

    THE CLIMATE IN MARRAKECH

The Ochre City enjoys a semi-desert climate. Winters are mild, between 6° and 19°, and summers very hot. In August, the mercury in Marrakech can rise to 37°.

Rainfall is concentrated between October and April, the wettest month. But the sun always shines in the end.

Whatever the season, there are ten hours of sunshine a day.

April, May, September and October are the most pleasant months in which to explore the southern gateway.

If you’re planning a trip to Morocco in summer, it’s best to avoid the City of the Seven Saints. The heat can be overwhelming, day and night.

    THE CLIMATE IN ESSAOUIRA

Located on the Atlantic coast, Essaouira enjoys a Mediterranean climate with an oceanic influence. Thanks to sea currents, the weather is mild in both winter and summer.

Temperature variations are less marked than in the rest of the country.

The thermometer almost never dips below ten degrees and never rises above 23°, even in July.

Water temperatures oscillate between 18° in January and 22° from July to October. If you’re planning to go surfing or kitesurfing in Morocco, bring your wetsuit!

From May to September, the ocean brings mist and fog in the morning. But don’t worry, they dissipate in the afternoon, giving way to sunshine.

The best time to visit or swim in Essaouira is from May to October. Essaouira is also one of the best destinations to visit in Morocco if you travel during the summer.

    CLIMATE IN CASABLANCA

Further north, on the Atlantic coast, Casablanca also enjoys a Mediterranean climate with an oceanic influence. Winters are mild, with temperatures between 9 and 20°C, and rain is rare.

In fine weather, the mercury rarely rises above 26°. Heat waves are less frequent and shorter than in the south of the country.

Morning mist and fog are common, but never last long.

Casablanca is a welcoming city all year round. However, May to September are the most pleasant months in which to explore the White City.

    THE CLIMATE IN AGADIR

The climate in the Bay of Agadir is both subtropical and oceanic. The weather is always fine and warm. Thermometers rise to 26° in winter and 30° in summer.

You can swim in water at 17° in January and 21° in July. The difference between water and air temperature can be significant. In Agadir in May, the ocean is only 18°, while the air is 26°.

To enjoy the beach and the sea, go to Agadir from June to October. You’ll avoid showers and enjoy warm, bright days.

    WHY GO TO MOROCCO?

To decide on the best time to go to Morocco, think about what you want to do. And if you have to travel on certain dates, don’t worry. Whatever the season, you’ll always find something to do in Morocco.

    The beach in Morocco

With over 3,500 kilometers of coastline, Morocco is a dream destination for sea lovers. The country’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean makes it ideal for wave-sheltered swimming, diving and surfing.

The seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast, such as Essaouira and Taghazout, are ideal for water sports. Although located on the ocean, Agadir’s calm waters are perfect for family bathing. Its six-kilometre stretch of fine sandy beach is a delight for lovers of castles and other ephemeral constructions.

To avoid the swell and find warmer waters, head for the Mediterranean coast. In Tétouan, M’Diq and Martil, the blue sea and golden sand seem unreal.

Are you torn between sea and ocean? Set a course for Tangier. The Pearl of the North overlooks both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

    Visit Moroccan towns and villages

Before booking your ticket, you’re probably wondering what to visit in Morocco. If this is your first visit to the Kingdom, set off to discover the imperial cities. In Fez, Marrakech, Rabat and Meknes, you’ll learn a lot about Moroccan history and culture. As well as palaces, kasbahs and souks, they are home to museums and parks.

If you’re away for two weeks, add Chefchaouen and Essaouira to your itinerary. With their colorful medinas and seafront, the Blue City and the City of the Winds have become must-sees when traveling in Morocco.

    Hiking in the Moroccan desert

Do you dream of walking through the palm groves of the Drâa Valley, surveying the canyons of the Valley of the Roses or climbing the 2,700-meter-high Jebel Saghro? Come to Morocco in September.

Late summer is the best time to explore the Moroccan desert, Zagora and Ouarzazate, the last towns before the Sahara.

You don’t need to be a top athlete to enjoy the landscape.

The more sporty opt for walking and mountain biking, while the less experienced prefer a 4×4 or camel ride.
